General Travel Date Information
Set Sail on 12 June 2023
Day 1-2: Tromso, Norway
Welcome to Tromso, the capital of the Arctic. Encompassed by extraordinary wilderness, Tromso is the ideal place to witness the incredible northern lights in winter and experience the midnight sun in the summer months. Ride the cable car to Mt Storsteinen for panoramic city views, admire the iceberg-shaped Arctic Cathedral and learn about local wildlife at the Polaria Arctic Experience Centre and Aquarium. Enjoy your 2 night city stay in Tromso.
Day 3: Tromso, Norway
Embark your 10 night ocean cruise onboard Norwegian Star.
Day 4: Leknes, Lofoten Islands, Norway
The harbour town of Leknes is a shopping mecca in the Lofoten islands, offering a range of products and stores. The surrounding cliffs and stunning waters create unparalleled views.
Day 5: Alta, Norway
Alta is located on the northern end of the Norwegian Coastline & is famous for its breathtaking views of the Northen Lights. The Northen lights are so present there that in 2013 they inspired the design for the Alta Northen Lights Cathedral, with its cascading architecture. Nearby you can visit the amazing Hjemmeluft Bay, which is home to thousands of prehistoric rock paintings. Alta is also the beginning of the famous Alta Fjord.
Day 6: Hammerfest, Norway
In keeping with much of northern Norway, the natural setting of Hammerfest is simply stunning with everything from alpine terrain to delicate shorelines. From May 17 to July 28, the midnight sun lights up the fjords, islands and skerries no matter what time of day.
Day 7: Honningsvag, Norway
For many travelers, the sparsely populated settlement of Honningsvåg is nothing more than a pit stop en route to the North Cape, the northernmost point of continental Europe. (The North Cape is rightly an iconic bucket-list destination with postcard views across the open ocean.) But amidst its colorful buildings, Honningsvåg has a lively cultural life powered by local spirit and an economy driven by shipping through the Barents Sea, which is ice-free year round thanks to the warming influences of the Gulf Stream. The town’s several notable cultural institutions include a museum and a busy cultural center. Honningsvåg is also a terrific base for exploring the rest of rugged arctic Norway, whether on foot, all-terrain vehicle or on the water. Back in town, be sure to stop by the statue of Bamse, the Saint Bernard dog that became the mascot of the Free Norwegian Forces during World War II.
Day 8: Longyearbyen (Svalbard), Norway
Longyearbyen is located way up north in the permafrost, 1300 kilometres above the Arctic circle! It is home to the worlds northernmost school & University as well as the Global Seed Vault. Longyearbyen is a town where you can see reindeer in the street & there are more snowmobiles than people! This is the Town where you can see a real Polar Bear – a stuffed one that is, at the Svalbard Museum.
Day 9: At Sea
Your day at sea will allow you to take full advantage of everything the ship has to offer. Seek out hidden treasures and make the most of the facilities onboard. All of the ship’s activities can be found in the vessel’s daily newsletter. If relaxation is on your mind then your sea day will allow you to sit back, soak in ship life and watch the world as it floats by you.
Day 10: Akureyri, Iceland
Iceland’s second largest city is home to integral ship ports and fishing centres. Enjoy a bustling nightlife and gourmet food amongst stunning snow-capped mountains and fjords or soak up robust folk culture. Whatever you choose, it will be memorable.
Day 11: Isafjordur, Iceland
Welcome to Isafjordur, home to towering peaks of untouched wilderness. The prosperous fishing town was formed by ancient volcanoes and settled in the ninth century by Vikings. Explore the narrow streets and 18th century timber structures that fill the town then spend some time learning about the regions history. If you’re feeling active then take part in horseback riding, bird watching, kayaking or hiking in the hills.
Day 12: Reykjavik, Iceland
Disembark Norwegian Star and welcome to Reykjavik, the wild and lively capital of Iceland. Despite being a relatively small city, Reykjavik is teeming with culture, history and hip restaurants, bars, and shops. Admire the sharp silhouette of Hallgrimskirkja Church, revisit history at the National Museum of Iceland, try the famous Reykjavik hotdog and soak in the geothermal waters of the Blue Lagoon. Enjoy your 2 night hotel stay in Reykjavik.
Day 13: Reykjavik, Iceland – Blue Lagoon Day Tour
Enjoy your day tour to Blue Lagoon before returning back to your hotel in Reykjavik.
Day 14: Reykjavik, Iceland
Farewell Reykjavik today as you board your flight home or ask us about our flexible flights & extend your stay.
Having recently undergone a grand refurbishment, the Norwegian Star has it all.
