Day 1: Australia – Negombo, Sri Lanka

Depart Australia for Sri Lanka today. On arrival into Negombo, be met and be assisted by your Tour Representative and driver who will be guiding you throughout the tour.  Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.

Note: Due to flight times and scheduling, some customers may be required to depart on the day before (day 0).

Day 2: Negombo (B) – Sigiriya (approx. 145km)

After breakfast this morning, enjoy a cooking experience, showcasing some of Sri Lanka’s famous traditional cuisine. Sample the freshly prepared food before departing for Sigiriya.

On arrival in Sigiriya, visit incredible Dambulla Rock Cave Temple for a guided tour (approx. 1 hour) of the ancient temple and pilgrimage site. See unique drawings in magnificently constructed cave-temples flanking the golden temple of Dambulla, with walls sheltering 150 statues of Lord Buddha. On entering the cave, look straight up to see a gigantic Buddha statue glittering in gold.

Enjoy the rest of the evening at leisure.

Day 3: Sigiriya (B, L)

After Breakfast, take the short drive to visit and climb the soaring Sigiriya Rock Fortress (approx. 3 hours).

The 5th century rock citadel of King Kasyapa and World Heritage Site – Sigiriya – is testament to ancient Sri Lankan engineering & urban planning. Step through gigantic ‘Lion Paws’ – overlooking the symmetrical royal gardens below – to comprehend the absolute splendour that once dominated the rock fortress. Surrounded by ramparts & moats, magnificent Lion Rock is coated in frescoes related to Gupta-style paintings found in the Ajanta caves of India. Examine the ancient (600AD) graffitied ‘mirror wall’, embracing the Western face of Sigiriya.

Then, be driven from Sigiriya to Polonnaruwa (approx. 55 kms). Enjoy included lunch in Polonnaruwa at a village residence, overlooking the paddy fields.

This afternoon, visit the ancient ruins of Polonnaruwa (approx. 2-3 hours). Walk across the scattered walls of this World Heritage Site – passing stupas, resting Buddha statues, irrigation canals and fantastically carved Hindu sculptures. Observe the relic house – Watadage – which homes beautiful Hindu-influenced stone carvings. Or sit by the side of Galviharaya and observe the absolute beauty of its huge Buddhist statues. Return to Sigiriya for the evening.

Day 4: Sigiriya – Matale – Kandy approx. 91kms (B)

Travel on to Kandy this morning, via a spice garden visit in lush Matale.

An agricultural zone in the Central Province, picturesque Matale region produces tea, rubber, vegetables and spices. Stop by the side of a spice garden to observe the therapeutic values of spices & processes over a refreshing cup of herbal tea. There will be time to wander the streets and soak up the local colour and culture.

Later, travel on to Kandy and check in at the hotel to relax for the rest of the day.

Day 5: Kandy (B)

After breakfast at the hotel, head out for guided sightseeing in Kandy.

Kandy – World Heritage Site & last royal capital of Sri Lankan kings – reflects Sri Lankan culture, history and heritage. See the temple of the sacred tooth relic of Lord Buddha, stroll through the bazaar with its arts & crafts centre, gem museum and lapidary. Drive towards Victoria Golf Course, one of the best golf courses in the world. Or observe the sights and scents of the fresh fruits and vegetables in the Kandy market.

Later, return to the hotel and spend the rest of the afternoon at leisure.

Day 6: Kandy (B)

Enjoy a full day of free time in Kandy.

Day 7: Kandy – Nuwara Eliya via scenic rail approx. 76km (B)

After breakfast at your hotel, take the short drive to Peradeniya Station and board the train to Nanu Oya (for Nuwara Eliya). This incredibly scenic rail journey winds through some of Sri Lanka’s most iconic tea country and lush forests and will be a highlight of your trip! After disembarking the train, be transferred to your Nuwara Eliya hotel.

Day 8: Nuwara Eliya (B)

After breakfast, experience a relaxed 2 hour tour of the area: See misty valleys, twisting through blankets of tea bushes. The city is still studded with colonial bungalows, hedgerows and one of the finest 18-hole golf courses in the world. Walk through the green grass and red-brick walls, with breathtaking countryside views. Drive through green valleys of the hill country pierced by waterfalls & dotted with tea pluckers draped in brightly coloured saris.

Optionally (not included), rent a bike for a gentle ride along the banks of Lake Gregory.

Later, return to the hotel and spend the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 9: Nuwara Eliya –Galle – Ahungalla approx. 300kms (B)

Today the tour departs the mountains and travels south from Nuwara Eliya toward Galle, with a guided tour on arrival.

Galle, Sri Lanka’s southern capital, is the intersection where Dutch architecture meets the tropics. Galle’s original ramparts and bastions showcase a heritage preserved for more than 3 1/2 centuries. Soak up the combined history and culture of this fascinating coastal city as you are guided through the ancient walled streets.

Later, proceed up the coast to Ahungalla and check in at the hotel.

Day 10: Ahungalla – Colombo approx. 95kms (B)

After breakfast, depart Ahungalla for Colombo and check in to the hotel. In the afternoon, experience sight-seeing in Colombo by modern tuk tuk. Observe the contrasts of thriving Colombo on your guided tour. Ride to Pettah to see the Floating Market and head along Bauddhaloka Mawatha toward the colonial Independence Square. Have a chilled beer at the Dutch Hospital while gazing through windows showcasing Sri Lankan fashion, jewellery & handicrafts. Smell the scent of incense while listening to the chiming bells of Gangarama temple, before checking in and free time.

Check out this morning and be transferred to the airport for your flight home.

Child policy
This tour is suitable for persons over 12 years old. Travel for $2290 per child when sharing a room with parents /adults and utilising existing bedding at the hotel.
Passengers under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Low deposit
A low deposit of $299 per person is required to secure your booking. A second deposit of $1150 per person will be required 11 months prior to departure. Balance is due 5 months prior to departure.

Deposit is fully refundable within 7 days of purchase.
Deposit is fully transferrable up to 90 days prior to departure, subject to airfare differences where flights have already been booked.
Balance is due 3 months prior to departure.

Amendment policy
The Peace of Mind Policy allows free of charge changes up to 90 months before departure, subject to airfare differences where flights have already been booked.
Each change within 90 days of departure: $100 per person plus applicable third-party supplier fees.
Each change within 60 days of departure: $250 per person plus applicable third-party supplier fees.

Cancellation policy
Cancellation more than 90 days before departure: Loss of deposit only.
Cancellation within 90 days of departure: 30% of package price.
Cancellation within 60 days of departure: 50% of package price.
Cancellation within 14 days of departure: 100% of package price.

Australian passport holders can enter Sri Lanka with an Electronic Travel Authorisation, which is applied for online prior to travel:  Other passport holders should check with their embassy prior to travel.

Baggage policy
Each person is entitled to a strict maximum of one bag not exceeding 20kg on tour, regardless of any other baggage allowance. Porter service is not included and you are expected to carry your own bags. Luggage and personal effects are your own risk and we hold no liability for lost or damaged belongings.

Final documentation will be emailed within two weeks of departure of the respective travel component.

The itinerary and its order, sightseeing and transportation may be adjusted as deemed necessary for optimum safety, enjoyment and operation of the tour. If attractions are not available due to reasons beyond our control such as closures or adverse weather, similar alternatives will be provided where possible. The indicated length of trip includes time in flight and is subject to change depending on the final flight schedule. Included admissions provide general entrance to the attraction and do not include secondary admissions or expenses inside the venue. Any reference to ‘optional’, ‘not included’ or ‘exclusions/excluded’ means at your own expense.

Hotel star ratings are either local ratings or self-ratings provided by the supplier. All rooms will be lead-in category or run of house unless otherwise stated.

Triple share
Triple share is available on this tour in the form of existing bedding and subject to availability. There is no discount for triple share.

Tipping for guides and drivers is welcomed but not expected in Sri Lanka. Tipping is at the discretion of the guest, 1000 Sri Lankan rupees (approx AUD$10) is sufficient.

Group size
The minimum group size for this tour is 10, maximum per vehicle is 20.

Breakaway policy
It is a condition of booking that you must always remain with the tour according to the prescribed program. Departure from the group or deviation from the set itinerary are not permitted unless written prior consent is obtained, otherwise you risk cancellation of remaining land and air arrangements.

Flights are booked approximately 9 to 10 months prior to departure. The flights included in your package are based on a specific predetermined airfare allowance. Should there be a significant increase in airfares, taxes or government fees at the time of booking flights, then an airfare supplement may be imposed. The flights team will discuss options with you prior to ticketing, should this situation arise. Flights may not operate daily or directly to your destination.

Feedback policy
All efforts must be made to resolve issues on tour with the tour leader. Complaints must be submitted in writing with substantiated evidence within 10 days of trip completion.

Please notify your guide of any special dietary requirements but note that choices may be limited or not catered for.

Force majeure
Force majeure means any natural disaster, accident, fire, act of God, act of war, terrorism, legally binding judgment, injunction, action of a court or other relevant authority, emergency, unplanned repairs, maintenance, strike, industrial dispute, work ban, blockade or picketing, travel ban, pandemic, epidemic or outbreak of infectious disease, or other event beyond our reasonable direct or indirect control. In case of force majeure or other extraordinary event that prevents safe travel, we reserve the right to adjust, postpone or cancel the trip.

The pricing, terms and conditions listed herewith shall prevail in the case of any ambiguity or contradiction with other terms.
