Day 15: Panama Canal, Panama

Known as the world’s biggest short cut, the Panama Canal joins the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean. Started by the French and completed by the USA on Panama’s land, the 48-mile canal was opened just over 100 years ago in 1914. Since then over 1-million ships have used the short cut. On your journey through the canal you will be able to see how the series of locks slowly elevate the ship up through the canal and back down again on the other side.

Oranjestad is the capital of Aruba, perfectly placed on the edge of the Caribbean Sea. Head to the Archaeological Museum for an exploration in to indigenous artifacts dating back as far as 2500 B.C. A walk along the waterfront will see you surrounded by boutiques and shopping malls.

Known for its beaches and boating canals. The Strip is a promenade running along the oceanside highway. It's lined with upscale outdoor restaurants, bars, boutiques and luxury hotels. Other attractions include the International Swimming Hall of Fame, with pools and a museum of memorabilia, and Hugh Taylor Birch State Park, featuring trails and a lagoon.

Funchal is sheltered by hills, and recognised for its harbour, gardens and Madeira wine cellars. The centuries-old Cathedral mixes Gothic and Roman styles, with the carved wooden ceiling as its pièce de résistance. Fronting the harbour is the São Tiago Fortress, built in the 1600s and now houses the Contemporary Art Museum, with a large collection of Portuguese inspired pieces.

Villefranche-sur-Mer is a commune in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region on the French Riviera, located close to the Principality of Monaco. This beautiful coastal location has been home to many movies over the years including Alfred Hitchcock's To Catch a Thief, The Count of Monte Cristo, Never Say Never Again and The Bourne Identity. You'll find an abundance of historical churches, chapels and other public buildings including the Citadel built in 1557, which is now home to the Town Hall, convention centre, three museums and an open-air theatre.

The remastered Queen Mary 2 was launched on the 23rd of June 2016. The brand new interior of the ship has been carefully planned to incorporate Cunard’s history and style as a traditional luxury cruise line alongside modern contemporary features. With all new concepts in some of the communal areas, new furnishings in all the suites the Queen Mary 2 really has had the Royal treatment during her refurbishment!

Launched in 2007, The Queen Victoria carries 1,988 passengers on worldwide itineraries. This stunning vessel has a large array of luxury choices on board.
