Venture along the Rhine to Cologne, one of Germany’s oldest and most magnificent cities. Join your guide for a tour of the Old Town and explore the modern city which was rebuilt after World War 2. Cologne boasts the World-Heritage listed Gothic Cathedral as well as museums, galleries and a Roman artefact museum!Day 2: Rudesheim (Rhine Gorge), Germany
Make sure to have your camera at the ready for today’s journey through the Rhine Gorge, packed full of stunning natural scenery and impressive castles. Including Pfalzgrafenstein Castle, set on an island in the middle of the river it was formally a toll gate. Working with the nearby fortified town of Kaub to collect money form traders passing through. As the ship winds downriver you will see the sites of many local fairy tales and folklore’s including the tale of Lorelei Rock. Shipwrecks have been recorded here as far back as the middle ages, a forlorn woman is said to sit atop the cliff combing her hair luring sailors onto the rocks. Arrive at today’s final destination, the popular German town of Rüdesheim. Activities here include cable car rides up to the impressive Germania monument with amazing views of the Rhine Valley, then free time to shop for handicrafts or taste the famous Rüdesheim ice coffee.Day 2: Mainz, Rudesheim
Start your day with an array of opportunities in this colorful and medieval German city nestled on the Rhine. What was once a Roman military post, Mainz still holds on to its historical importance in a whole new age. Explore Mainz’s natural wonders with a trip to Wiesbaden’s hot springs and take a dip in the sparkling mineral waters. Wander around Mainz’s Old Town and marvel at its old-world buildings’ Gothic architecture. Mainz is marvelous. When your afternoon begins in vibrant Rüdesheim, you won’t know where to start. Journey to the extraordinary Eberbach Abbey, one of the most remarkable architectural sites in all of Germany. The former monastery sits in the acclaimed Rheingau region and has been a popular filming location movie and television. We’ll treat you to a Rheingau Riesling wine tasting within its historic walls.Day 3: Frankfurt, Germany
Frankfurt is known as the “Manhattan” of Europe due to its profusion of bankers and soaring skyscrapers, which co-exist with the city’s traditional Old Town architecture. Experience Frankfurt’s many contrasts today by visiting Germany’s oldest museum or taking a guided “Let's Go” bike ride. Delve into exciting Frankfurt today. A major European financial and trade centre, vibrant Frankfurt boasts world-class museums, soaring skyscrapers, cozy wine taverns and lovely parks. Choose a brief tour that gives you an overview or a more in-depth walking tour and then explore on your own. There’s a lot to discover, including a great bike path along the Main, if you’d like to get out and about for some exercise.Day 4: Koblenz, Germany
Today you will find yourself in Koblenz, a 2000 year old town situated on the Rhine and Moselle rivers. Explore the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, one of the main defences against the French in the 19th century. Spend the afternoon sailing the Rhine Gorge, passing plenty of stunning castles and vineyards on the way to your next destination.Day 5: Cologne, Germany
