Aomori is located on Mutsu Bay, at the northern tip of Honshu. Here, nature and culture blend into one. Bask in The Shirakami Mountains, which boast a staggering amount of beech trees, consequently being designated as a World Heritage Site. Reminders of ancient times abound throughout Aomori as well, and you can also indulge in the serene atmosphere of the Sannai-Maruyama Ruins, dating back to between 4,000 and 5,000 BC.
Hakodate is best known for its spectacular views and the area’s deliciously fresh seafood and traditional ramen. From the top of the Mount Hakodate, you’ll enjoy a magnificent view of the city which is surrounded by deep blue waters. You can reach the summit by hiking trail, cable car, or auto. Hakodate is filled with hot springs, even offering steamy outdoor foot baths to pedestrians.
Commonly referred to as the “City of Steel” due to its industrial roots, though Muroran has much more to offer than people think. Visit a 24-acre crater named “Hell Valley” due to the volcanic eruption of Mt. Kuttara. Experience boiling lava streams, hot water springs, and stunning ocean views from Cape Chikyu.
