Grand Mediterranean Wonders

Welcome to Croatia! Join the Voyages of Discovery team this evening for a formal welcome dinner on board the ship.
Spend the day exploring Dubrovnik, a medieval walled city which has been meticulously preserved despite the invasions, wars and earthquakes over the years. The highlights of Dubrovnik include walking the city walls, discovering Lokrum Island and panoramic views from the top of the Mount Srd cable car.
Another Croatian city bursting with thousands of years’ worth of history, Split is set inside the walls of Roman Emperor Diocletian’s 6,000-year-old Palace. Explore the narrow cobblestoned streets and charming pavement cafes or take a historical walking tour and learn about Splits fascinating past.
Join the crew of the Voyager as they celebrate making the maiden call into Rijeka. Another delightful city on Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast you can choose to spend the day at Sablicevo Beach, explore the Natural History Museum or browse for gifts in the City Market.
Today’s port of call is Koper in Slovenia, well-known for its 15th century Venetian Palace, and having Slovenia’s largest cathedral. Spend the day wandering down the promenade or venture further afield to Slovenia’s lively capital Ljubljana.
Welcome to Italy! Spend the next two days exploring one of Europe’s most romantic cities. Take a gondola ride, wander the narrow streets and enjoy the amazing Italian food and wine.
Day two in Venice, make sure to see popular sites such as St Mark’s Square, Doge’s Palace and the Rialto Bridge which crosses the Grand Canal. Visit Murano Island to watch the artists blow glass and create the well-known Murano Glass ornaments and jewellery.
Day 8 of your Mediterranean cruise will be spent at sea aboard the Voyager, enjoy the small uncrowded facilities with only 540 passengers on board. Swim in the pool, soak in the hot tub, or read your book on the sun deck.
Step back in time as you discover the medieval town of Kotor. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, make sure to visit the palaces, churches and museums of the fortified old town.
The stunning island of Corfu has something for everyone. Soak up the traditional Greek Old Town with its Venetian fortress built in the 1400’s. Relax on the beach and enjoy a drink or two in stylish and cosmopolitan Corfu Town. Or venture further afield with a trip to the Achilleion Palace built for the Empress of Austria in the 1800’s.
Katakolon is the gateway to Olympia, birthplace of the Olympic Games. Stroll through the ancient stadium ruins, and see the place where the Olympic Torch is lit every Olympics before travelling to the host country to light the Olympic Flame. Alternatively join the shore excursion to the Mercouri Vineyard for an afternoon of wine tasting.
The second maiden port for the Voyager on this Mediterranean cruise, Monemvasia is located on a small island linked to the mainland of Greece by a short causeway. From the mainland the island looks like a huge uninhabitable cliff face, but hidden on the other side, are the well preserved Byzantine town and fortress. Fascinating history, interesting architecture and fantastic beaches await.
Two days in Athens, Europe’s oldest city, means you have plenty of time to explore both the modern city and its ancient history. Visit the Acropolis, the hub of ancient Greek civilisation with the iconic remains of the Parthenon. Make sure to see the Panathenaic Stadium, the host of the 1896 inaugural Modern Olympic Games.
Spend more time exploring Athens today, or stay closer to the ship and visit the Archaeological Museum of Piraeus, the Maritime Museum or the Battleship Averof.
Spend Day 15 sailing aboard the Voyages of Discovery luxury cruise ship on the way to Thessaloniki, your next port of call. Enjoy lectures on board the ship today with Author and Historian Steve Ragnall whose area of expertise is Captain James Cook, a famous British navigator in the 1700’s and the first European to reach the shores of Australia, New Zealand and Hawaii.
You have now arrived in Thessaloniki, Greece’s second city. Enjoy a drink in the stylish bars of the Marina, explore ancient historical buildings and museums, or venture further afield to Pella, birthplace of Alexander the Great and former capital of the Kingdom of Macedon.
Welcome to Kavala, a picturesque city on the mainland of Greece, built on the slopes of Mount Symvolo looking out over the ocean. The historic city has been inhabited for thousands of years by various empires all leaving behind traces of their existence. Visit the 16th century Kamares Aqueduct, the Tobacco Museum or the Ottoman Acropolis built on top of a Byzantine castle in the 1400’s.
The next stop on your Voyages of Discovery European Cruise is Istanbul in Turkey! Once known as Constantinople, the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire, the city has a fascinating history. Located on the border between middle-eastern and western cultures the city has many interesting influences and sights to see.
While in Istanbul make sure to try a traditional Turkish coffee and stop in at a Turkish Bath or Hammam.
Canakkale itself is an energetic university town with great bars and cafes lining its cobblestone lanes. From here you can visit the ruins of the ancient city of Troy, written about in Homer’s famous Iliad. This is also the best place from which to see the WWI battlefields of Gallipoli.
Welcome to Dikili, a popular Turkish summer resort. Relax on the beach and explore town or take a shore excursion to the ancient town of Pergamum which was famous in Roman times for its huge library and the world’s first medical centre.
Cesme boasts a magnificent castle from which you can look out over the beautiful beaches and turquoise waters. It is also the gateway for Ephesus, an ancient town settled over 12,000 years ago.
Back in Greece, todays stop is the island of Kos. Visit ancient temples and fortresses, or simply enjoy a long lunch at a local Greek taverna and treat yourself to a traditional gyros or souvlaki plate.
The island of Santorini, well-known for its fantastic beaches, white washed cubist architecture and accompanying blue domed roofs, looks out over the submerged volcano which devastated the island over 3,000 years ago.
The unspoiled traditional Greek port of Gythion has a pretty waterfront lined with fish restaurants. Further afield visit the ancient city of Sparta.
Back in Athens, enjoy one last night aboard the Voyager before disembarking the ship and continuing on your European adventure. Ask your My Cruises consultant about adding some extra nights in Athens to your cruise deal, or for recommendations for onward travel after your Mediterranean cruise.
