Welcome to Portsmouth! Board Swan Hellenic’s luxury cruise ship the Minerva for your 42-night cruise around the Baltic Sea, the British Isles and Ireland.
With only 350 passengers on board, the atmosphere on the Minerva has been likened to an English country house. While at sea today relax in the library and enjoy one of over 5,000 fiction and non-fiction books provided for your reading pleasure.
The cruise today takes you down the Keil canal, a 98km long man made waterway linking the North and Baltic seas.
You have now arrived in Germany! Join the crew of the Minerva for a tour of medieval Rostock including the Stasi museum which displays information on the secret police in East Germany during the time of the Berlin Wall. Or take an option shore excursion to Berlin for a look around this fascinating city full of WWII historical sites (additional cost).
Among the speakers on board for this section of your Baltic cruise is Professor Christopher Andrew, author, Cambridge University lecturer and official historian of MI5. Enjoy some after dinner entertainment with one of his complimentary lectures, included in your My Cruises cruise deal.
Poland is today’s port of call, enjoy a tour of Gdansk’s Old Town included as part of your cruise package, or wander the colourful medieval quayside and find a café to relax in as you watch the world go by.
Welcome to Lithuania! A tour of Klaipeda’s historic old town awaits you, followed by a trip to Palanga and Tiskevicui’s Palace. The Palace is now a museum and houses over 25,000 exhibits.
UNESCO World Heritage Site Riga is a fascinating city. join the Swan Hellenic team for the ‘Highlights of Riga’ tour on today’s stop in Latvia.

You have now arrived in Tallin, Estonia’s capital city. Having been taken over by many invading countries over the years Estonia became independent in 1991. Join the crew of the Minerva to discover the cities medieval Old Town and fascinating Soviet past.
Get ready for three days in St Petersburg! The Swan Hellenic team have organised tours of the city, a visit to the State Hermitage museum, and a trip to both the Peterhof Palace and St Catherine’s Palace. Plus, optional tours to the Faberge Museum or the Marinsky Theatre, famous for its opera and ballet (additional cost).
On the itinerary in Finland today is a tour of Helsinki, a trip to Suomenlinna island the UNESCO World Heritage fort build by the Swedish, or a visit to the home of Jean Sibelius, renowned Finish composer.
Stockholm, Sweden’s capital city is spread over fourteen islands, and is home to the Swedish Royal Family. Enjoy two days here featuring a city tour of the historical sites such as Gamla Stan the 13th century old town, a trip to the Vasa museum which houses the huge 17th century warship recovered from the bottom of the sea after 300 years, and a visit to Stockholm’s Museum of National Antiquities to learn what life was like as a Viking.

Welcome to Umea, Europe’s Culture Capital 2014! A small university town in Sweden’s North, it has a great music scene and plenty to keep you entertained such as the vintage guitar museum, the sculpture park, and the open-air historic village.
Welcome to Lapland! Today’s highlight is Ranua Wildlife Park, the northern most zoo in the world! Observe artic animals including polar bears, reindeer, and arctic fox.
Today accompany the Swan Hellenic crew on a tour of Vaasa, or visit the Meteoria Söderfjärden a crater left behind on Finland’s surface by a meteorite more than 520- million years ago.
Sail through the Archipelago Sea, a vast array of over 50,000 islands and islets to visit historical Turku and nearby Naantali on today’s cruise stop.

Welcome back to England! Enjoy a day of exploring on your own today. Take the short train ride to London, or stick closer to the ship and enjoy panoramic views of the coast from the Spinnaker tower. Portsmouth is well-known for its maritime history and is still a naval base today. Visit the Tudor warship the Mary Rose dating back to 1510, HMS Victory built in the 1700’s or the HMS Warrior built in the late 1800’s.
Cruise in luxury towards your next stop, Scotland. While on board the Minerva enjoy a talk from retired naval admiral and now author of War and Peas, a book on the Falklands War, Rear Admiral John Lippiett CB CBE.
On the itinerary for today’s visit to Lerwick in the Scottish Shetland Islands is Jarlshof, one of the most impressive prehistoric archaeological sites in the British Isles. See the site of ancient settlements dating back over 4,000 years. Alternately take a short boat trip to Mousa Island to see the unique wildlife and 2,000-year-old Iron Age tower.
In Kirkwill join the cruise team to visit Skaill House a 17th century mansion with the best preserved prehistoric village in Europe in its grounds. Whiskey fans must visit Highlands Park, the most Northerly Whiskey distillery in the world for a tasting of the unique Whiskey and a tour of the distillery.
The port of call on your cruise today is Stornoway in the Outer Hebrides. Join the Swan Hellenic crew for a trip to the mysterious Standing Stones of Callanish, built 5,000 years ago in 3,000 BC the stones are thought to have been part of an astronomical calendar associated with the moon.
The Minerva will make a circumnavigation around St Kilda today, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the most remote part of the British Isles. Inhabited for thousands of years they have been empty since 1930 and are now used for wildlife conservation projects and research on ancient civilizations.
Accompany the Minerva team today to visit the 13th century Duart Castle set in outstanding Scottish country side, or enjoy a short boat ride to neighbouring island of Iona.
Take afternoon tea in the Veranda Restaurant today as you cruise towards Ireland.
Take a fascinating city tour of Waterford, Ireland’s oldest city, founded by the Vikings in 914! Also on the agenda are a tour of the famous Waterford Crystal Factory established in 1783, or a visit to Woodstock Gardens to explore the wonderful flowers and plants coupled with a stop in Instioge a small charming Irish town.
Located in the Bristol Channel between England and Ireland, Lundy is a small, but breathtakingly beautiful island. During your free time today, go for a hike, explore the marine reserve underwater world while scuba diving, or take part in the English country side tradition of ‘letterboxing’. Pick up a letterboxing pack from the shop and follow the clues to find the small wooden boxes hidden throughout the countryside to collect the stamps.
Day 39 of your European cruise brings you to the Isles of Scilly, just off the coast of Cornwall, they are the most southerly point of the UK. Join the Swan Hellenic crew for a tour of the Tresco Abbey Gardens, home to thousands of exotic topical plants.
Welcome to Sark, the third largest of the five Channel Islands. Located in the English Channel the Channel Islands are actually closer to France than they are the UK. This tiny island is only just over 5km ² and boasts peaceful lanes and narrow streets as no cars are allowed on the island.
